Google has a new permission policy that denies PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS and READ_CALL_LOG permissions: https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9047303?hl=en

That means that Call Recorder app will not be able to read phone number during the call. Call recording feature will still be working as before the only difference that all hidden recordings have to be renamed manually to be able to display contact information.

New version without read phone number permissions will be published on March 8. If you have auto updates enabled on the Google Play Store the app will be automatically updated. Disable auto updates if you want to keep the older version.

New google policy applies only to Google Play store. So we published an app that include those permissions to Google Drive and other app stores like SamsungAptoide.

The Free and Pro versions are two apps with almost the same code inside and it takes a lot of time to update the same thing twice..
So better to spend this time on making testing and deliver more quality product then check if everything was copied correctly and then again testing it twice. It’s slowing down the development process. That is the first reason.
Also there some technical aspects – a lot of users have problems to get their recordings from Free version to Pro. For some cases importing is not working… So the best way is to upgrade the Free version with all remaining recordings to have all the functionality from Pro. And that is how it will work now.
Pro version was born a long time ago when in app purchase was not implemented by google. But now it’s time to change it and make it better.
We understand users of Pro version concern, that it’s confusing. But we just want to make the app better. And this is the best way to develop and support the app in the future.
You need Pro version just for activating additional functionality in Free. Then you can delete it and use the Free app without ads and with all the functionality from Pro version. By the view of functionality you will have the same app but with better quality and even more features.
New users will have to buy the Pro functionality as it was before. Just only change that they will have to use in app purchase inside the app.

New in version 7.5

1. Updated UI and launch icon.
2. Added dark theme.
3. Fixed problem with incoming call during conversation.
4. Added possibility to add, edit, delete note to the recording.
5. Improved search functionality. Added search by notes.
6. Added possibility to dial number from the app.
7. It’s possible to enable premium functionality inside the app. No need to install separate app.

Call Recorder Pro (starting from ver 6.6) will no longer be updated by new functionality but will be working like a license activator to enable premium features for standard Free version.

It still will be working as before, but without new features like:

  • New UI with possibility to switch between Light and Dark themes
  • Notes for recordings. Add, edit, remove notes and search by notes.
  • Dial number from recording.
  • and more that will be adding in the next releases.

So it is recommended to install standard free version and restore your license there.

In this way:

  • We want to decrease our resources we spend for supporting 2 applications. That will give us more time to work on app quality.
  • Upgrade process will be more simple. The new users will no longer need to go through migration process from standard Free version to the Pro one.

If you are a current user of the Pro version and want to activate premium functionality, please, do these steps:

  1. Go to to Google Play and install standard Free version by using this link.
  2. Open it and select Upgrade to Premium menu
  3. Then press RESTORE LICENSE button.
  4. After license is restored you can delete the Pro version if you want to.

If you did not purchased the Pro version but want to activate premium functionality then:

  1. Select Upgrade to Premium menu
  2. Then press BUY button and go through purchasing process.

In our app call recording functionality depends on 2 main parameters: Recording method and Audio source.

For different phones with different  Android versions these parameters have to be changed.

Starting from Call Recorder Free ver 6.0 and Pro ver 5.5 there are two Recording method available for now:

  • Media – has possibility to record in 3gp & mp4 file formats
  • Audio – can record wav, arm & mp3 file formats

And also 3 main Audio sources:

  • Phone line
  • Microphone
  • Communication

Mix both of these have to be changed if your phone does not record any calls.

Here are the list of supported devices and known configurations for them.

Starting from Call Recorder Free (ver 5.8) & Call Recorder Pro (ver 5.4) it is possible to select removable storage.

For this you have to enable checkbox “Allow to write to removable SD card”.  Then select the removable storage in the dropdown list.

If this checkbox is selected:

  • If uninstall Call Recorder then all the stored files will be deleted. So before uninstalling the app, make a backup of all important recordings.
  • all the recordings stored into the Folder:  <path selected in dropdown> + /Android/data/polis.app.callrecorder.pro/files/CallRecorder/
