As on Android 10–12, install the Call Recorder Helper app from Google Drive. Android 13 adds one more restriction: the app can no longer turn on the Call Recorder Helper service by itself, so you need to enable it manually – the video below shows how. Make sure your recording settings are:

Starting with Android 10, recording during a call is blocked completely. The only way to record via the microphone is the Call Recorder Helper app, which you can download from Google Drive. It also brings back phone numbers during calls. Make sure your recording settings are:

Unfortunately, Android 9 offers no reliable way to record the other party. Google started restricting call recording in Android 6. We found workarounds for Android 6, 7 and 8, but on Android 9 they no longer work.

The only way to record the other party is to turn on the speaker during the call, so the microphone picks up both sides. Make sure your recording settings are:

There is an open request in Google’s Issue Tracker to add call recording support to Android: Call recorder required. We hope it will be added in future Android versions.

Android 6.0 and later have a battery optimization feature. To save battery, the system can put Call Recorder to sleep – and then it looks as if the app records randomly or doesn’t record at all.

On Android 12 and above this is required: turn off battery optimization for Call Recorder, otherwise recording won’t start.

To fix it, change the battery settings on your phone. Where to find them depends on the phone model:

Some third-party apps can also stop other apps from working in the background – for example Clean Master, App Manager, Task Manager, Battery Optimizer, Greenify or Privacy Guard. They can stop Call Recorder too, and then some calls won’t be recorded. Add Call Recorder to their whitelist or uninstall them.

This usually happens on phones with little RAM: Android stops the recording service to free up memory.

Open the app’s Settings > Notifications and turn on Recording notification (shows a notification while recording). With the notification on, the system should no longer stop the recording.

Another possible reason is that the phone is running out of storage.

Google Play’s permission policy no longer allows call recording apps published on Google Play to access the phone number during a call.

The policy only applies to apps distributed through Google Play, so we’ve published a separate Call Recorder Helper app with these permissions on Google Drive. Install it to see phone numbers again.

Make sure you’re using the latest version of the Helper app – call recording depends on it. You can always download the newest version from Google Drive.

Open the menu of a recording (top right corner) and select “Info” – it shows the exact path to the file.

Install this free codec pack to play the recordings on your PC or laptop.

Tap the contact picture to select recordings, then tap the delete icon in the top bar. For 10 seconds you can still tap UNDO; after that the recordings are deleted permanently and can’t be restored.

Recordings are stored only on your phone – there is no cloud copy. So if a recording was deleted, or the phone was lost or reset, we can’t restore it.
